In a shocking incident at an active construction project in Quthbullapur, a laborer lost his life following an alleged physical assault by a contractor and several coworkers. The Jeedimetla police have launched a formal investigation into the violence, which reportedly stemmed from an accusation of theft.
Incident Details and Motive
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Rinku Kumar, was a migrant worker employed at a building site within the Subhash Nagar locality. According to police reports, the conflict began earlier this week when the site contractor, Rama Krishna, accused Kumar of stealing a collection of construction tools. The situation escalated rapidly as the contractor, along with several other laborers, allegedly took matters into their own hands rather than involving authorities.
Investigators state that Kumar was forcibly restrained—his hands and legs tied—before being subjected to a severe physical beating. Witnesses suggest the assault was intended to coerce a confession regarding the missing equipment. Despite the severity of his injuries, Kumar was reportedly left at the site for a duration before medical help was sought.
Investigation and Legal Action
Following the assault, Kumar’s health deteriorated significantly. He was eventually transported to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead. The preliminary autopsy indicated that internal injuries sustained during the beating were the primary cause of death.
The Jeedimetla police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges pertaining to culpable homicide and wrongful confinement. “We have taken several individuals into custody for questioning, including the primary contractor,” a police spokesperson stated. “Mob justice has no place in a civil society, and we are working to ensure all participants are held accountable.”

This tragic event has renewed concerns regarding the safety and legal protections of migrant laborers in the construction sector. Labor rights advocates are calling for stricter oversight of construction sites and better grievance redressal mechanisms to prevent such instances of informal “vigilante” justice.
