A significant archaeological discovery has been made at the site of the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. During ongoing excavation work intended for the temple’s expansion and modernization project, workers unearthed an ancient Shivling, sparking immense interest among devotees and historians alike.
Discovery Amidst Site Development
The discovery occurred as heavy machinery was clearing earth to facilitate the expansion of the temple complex. The Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, is currently undergoing a massive renovation aimed at improving pilgrim facilities and infrastructure. As the laborers reached a specific depth, they encountered the stone structure, which was immediately identified as a classic Shivling.
Work on the specific section of the site was temporarily halted to ensure the artifact remained undamaged. Local authorities and temple management were quickly notified of the find.
