In a case that has rattled the national capital, Delhi Police have apprehended a former domestic worker whose crime spree spanned multiple states and culminated in the brutal murder of a high-ranking Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer’s daughter. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Akash, was arrested following a high-stakes manhunt that linked him to a string of violent offenses including sexual assault and theft.
The Fatal Encounter in South Delhi
The investigation began earlier this week when the 26-year-old daughter of an IRS officer was found dead in her south Delhi residence. Initial forensic reports suggested the victim had been strangled. Upon scanning CCTV footage from the neighborhood, investigators spotted Akash, who had previously worked for the family, entering the premises shortly before the estimated time of death.
According to police sources, Akash had been dismissed from his duties months prior due to behavioral concerns. It is alleged that he returned to the home with the intent to commit robbery, but the situation escalated into a violent confrontation when the victim resisted his attempts.
A Trail of Crimes Across State Lines
As the Delhi Police deepened their investigation, they discovered that the murder was not an isolated incident. Akash had allegedly been on a “crime holiday,” moving between Rajasthan and the national capital. Just days before the Delhi tragedy, he was linked to a horrific rape case in Alwar, Rajasthan. Local authorities in Alwar had been seeking his whereabouts after a woman accused him of a brutal assault during a home invasion.
Modus Operandi: Exploiting Trust
Criminologists and police officials noted that Akash frequently targeted households where he had prior knowledge of the layout and the residents’ schedules. By leveraging his former status as a helper, he was able to bypass security measures. “The suspect systematically targeted vulnerable individuals in homes he once served, using his familiarity with the premises to strike with precision,” a senior police official stated during a press briefing.
Legal Proceedings and Public Safety
The suspect has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder and robbery. Coordination between the Delhi and Rajasthan police departments is currently underway to ensure all charges are consolidated.
