In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh, a violent collision between a tractor-trolley and a truck in Mirzapur late Thursday night resulted in the tragic deaths of 11 laborers. The accident occurred on the Prayagraj-Varanasi National Highway within the jurisdiction of the Kachwa police station area.
Late-Night Tragedy on the National Highway
The victims, a group of laborers, were reportedly returning home after completing a construction job in Bhadohi. According to local police reports, the tractor-trolley was carrying approximately 13 passengers when a high-speed truck, traveling from the direction of Varanasi, rammed into the vehicle from behind. The force of the impact was so severe that it sent the tractor-trolley veering off the road, resulting in immediate fatalities.
Local onlookers and residents rushed to the scene to assist before emergency services arrived. While 10 individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, another succumbed to injuries shortly after. Three others involved in the crash are currently undergoing medical treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities Launch Investigation
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan confirmed the details of the incident, stating that the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver may have lost control due to excessive speed, though authorities are looking into all potential factors, including visibility issues during the late hours.
Rescue Efforts and Government Response
Senior administrative officials visited the site and the hospital to ensure that survivors are receiving the best possible medical care. The district administration is currently in the process of identifying all the victims and notifying their next of kin. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and has directed the district administration to provide all necessary relief to the families of the deceased and the injured.
Road safety has come under renewed scrutiny following this incident, as the Prayagraj-Varanasi stretch continues to be a high-risk zone for heavy vehicle collisions, particularly during the night when industrial and commercial transport is at its peak.
