Authorities in Gujarat’s Dahod district are investigating a major food poisoning outbreak that occurred following a wedding celebration on Monday evening. Health officials report that over 200 guests required medical intervention after consuming a traditional feast in the late evening hours.
Rapid Onset of Symptoms Post-Dinner
The incident took place in a local village where approximately 400 people had gathered to celebrate a wedding. According to eyewitnesses and local health representatives, the guests partook in a communal dinner served around 8:00 p.m. Within hours of the meal, a significant portion of the attendees began experiencing acute symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Local clinics and hospitals were quickly overwhelmed as dozens of patients arrived seeking urgent care. “The influx of patients was sudden and concentrated,” stated a medical professional on-site. “We immediately prioritized hydration and stabilization for those showing the most severe signs of gastronomic distress.”
Focus on Contaminated Food Sources
While the full menu encompassed several traditional dishes, investigators are closely examining a specific item served during the festivities: mango juice. This seasonal staple is a common feature at regional weddings, but it is also highly susceptible to spoilage or contamination if not prepared and stored under strict hygienic conditions.
Local health departments have collected samples from the catering area to determine the exact cause of the illness. Preliminary assessments suggest that the culprit may be bacterial contamination, though laboratory results are still pending. Of the 400 guests who ate the meal, more than half reported feeling unwell, with over 200 cases being officially recorded by medical facilities.
Current Status of the Victims
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in connection with the outbreak. Most of those affected were treated with intravenous fluids and anti-emetics before being discharged. However, several individuals remains under observation to ensure no further complications arise. Local authorities have issued a reminder to event planners and caterers regarding the importance of food safety protocols, especially during the peak of the wedding season when high temperatures can accelerate food spoilage.
