In a significant boost to regional rail connectivity, a new weekly express train service linking Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to the historic city of Mysuru in Karnataka was officially inaugurated on Saturday. The service aims to bridge the gap between major commercial hubs and cultural centers across the two southern states.
Inauguration Ceremony at Kakinada Town Station
The inaugural run of the Kakinada Town-Mysuru Special Express (Train No. 07302) was flagged off by Kakinada Member of Parliament Tangella Uday Srinivas. The ceremony, held at the Kakinada Town railway station, saw the presence of local leaders, railway officials, and excited commuters. During the event, MP Srinivas emphasized that this new route is a direct response to the long-standing demands of the local population for better connectivity to Karnataka.
The MP noted that the railway link would not only benefit tourists traveling to Mysuru but also provide a critical transport link for students, professionals, and traders who frequently travel between these regions. He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Railways for prioritizing the expansion of services in the South Central Railway zone.
Route Details and Schedule
The new weekly service is designed to offer a comfortable overnight journey for passengers. The train is scheduled to depart from Kakinada Town every Saturday, making its way through several key stations before reaching its destination in Mysuru. Key stops along the route include Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Bengaluru, ensuring that major urban centers are integrated into the network.
Enhancing Inter-State Logistics and Tourism
Railway officials stated that the introduction of this express train is expected to stimulate local economies. By connecting the port city of Kakinada—known for its industrial growth—with Mysuru, a city famous for its heritage and booming IT sector, the service facilitates easier movement of labor and goods.
Furthermore, the timing of the train is expected to be a hit with weekend travelers. Passengers from the Godavari districts can now enjoy a direct link to the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru, and the royal city of Mysuru without the hassle of multiple transfers. The train features various classes of travel, including AC and Sleeper coaches, to accommodate different budget requirements.
Future Railway Developments
The flagging-off ceremony also served as a platform for officials to discuss upcoming projects. MP Uday Srinivas highlighted that efforts are underway to further improve station facilities at Kakinada, including platform extensions and better passenger amenities. The railway department is also evaluating the feasibility of increasing the frequency of this service based on the initial patronage and feedback from the public.
