On International Workers’ Day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu underscored his administration’s commitment to the labor force during a commemorative event in Pamarru. The Chief Minister personally distributed financial assistance to 35 construction workers, marking a significant gesture of support for the state’s backbone workforce.
Direct Financial Aid for Construction Workers
In a tangible display of government support, Chief Minister Naidu handed over checks worth ₹5 lakh to each of the 35 selected construction workers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide a safety net for those in the high-risk construction sector. During the ceremony, Naidu emphasized that these funds are meant to empower the families of workers and provide security in times of need.
Expanding the Social Security Net
Beyond the immediate financial grants, the Chief Minister utilized the May Day platform to outline the extensive financial commitments his government has made toward social welfare. Naidu revealed that the state currently allocates over ₹33,000 crore annually to sustain pension schemes. This massive investment currently benefits approximately 62.47 lakh individuals across the state, ranging from the elderly to the specially-abled.
Support for Unorganized Labor
Addressing the challenges faced by those outside the formal employment sector, Naidu highlighted a dedicated expenditure of ₹615 crore specifically for unorganized workers. This funding is designed to provide welfare benefits to nearly 88 lakh laborers who often lack traditional job security and benefits. The Chief Minister reiterated that his government views these investments not as expenditures, but as essential pillars for the growth and stability of Andhra Pradesh’s economy.
The event concluded with the Chief Minister promising further enhancements to worker-centric policies, ensuring that the rights and well-being of the labor community remain at the forefront of the state’s legislative agenda.
