External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reaffirmed that Africa remains a cornerstone of India’s strategic global outreach, emphasizing that the modern partnership is built upon a profound historical foundation. Speaking on the enduring ties between the two regions, Jaishankar highlighted that current diplomatic efforts are an extension of “civilisational linkages” that have flourished through centuries of mutual exchange.
A Partnership Rooted in History
According to the External Affairs Minister, the connection between India and the African continent is not merely a modern diplomatic necessity but a relationship nurtured over generations. He pointed to the extensive history of human interaction and cultural cross-pollination that occurred long before formal diplomatic structures were established. This shared history, he suggested, provides a unique level of trust and mutual understanding that defines India’s approach to the continent today.
India’s foreign policy has increasingly pivoted toward the Global South, with Africa serving as a primary pillar of this engagement.
