Law enforcement officials in Hyderabad have successfully apprehended a 26-year-old man accused of high-value theft aboard a long-distance private bus. The suspect, identified as Gade Sharanappa, a resident of Musheerabad, was arrested following a calculated investigation into the disappearance of gold jewelry from a sleeping passenger.
The Anatomy of a Highway Heist
The incident unfolded during the early hours of November 6. According to the Afzalgunj police, the victim, identified as Shanti, was traveling from Hubballi to Hyderabad on a private transit service. Taking advantage of the victim’s deep sleep during the journey, the accused allegedly managed to pilfer a gold chain and a necklace, weighing approximately 120 grams in total.
The theft occurred while the bus was in transit, leaving the victim unaware of the loss until her arrival. The stolen ornaments were valued at several lakhs of rupees, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities after the complaint was lodged.
Arrest and Recovery of Assets
Following a lead and technical analysis, the Afzalgunj police intercepted Sharanappa near the Gowliguda bus stand. During the subsequent search, law enforcement officers recovered the entirety of the stolen property. “We have successfully retrieved 120 grams of gold ornaments from the possession of the accused,” a spokesperson for the police department confirmed.
The swift action by the special teams led to the recovery of the jewelry before it could be sold or melted down. The suspect was formally taken into custody and has been remanded to judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
