In a major crackdown on the illicit trade of narcotics and unauthorized spirits, the Hyderabad Excise Department intensified its enforcement activities, resulting in significant seizures across the city. Authorities confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with multiple cases involving the possession and distribution of contraband valued at over ₹46 lakh.
High-Value Drug Seizures in Targeted Raids
The first significant operation targeted the distribution of ganja, a persistent challenge for local law enforcement. Acting on credible intelligence, excise officials intercepted a consignment intended for local distribution. During the operation, officers recovered a substantial quantity of the narcotic substance, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects involved. This seizure highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to dismantle supply chains feeding the city’s illegal drug market.
According to department spokespeople, the total market value of the confiscated items—which includes both narcotics and non-duty paid liquor—is estimated to exceed ₹46 lakh. The operations were strategically executed across different zones in Hyderabad to maximize the impact on organized smuggling rings.
Crackdown on Non-Duty Paid Liquor and Counterfeit Spirits
In addition to the narcotics bust, the excise teams conducted raids focusing on the illegal transport and sale of liquor. This included the seizure of non-duty paid (NDP) alcohol, which is often smuggled from neighboring states to evade local taxes and regulations. The authorities also targeted the production of adulterated spirits, which pose a severe health risk to consumers.
Enhanced Surveillance and Future Enforcement
The Hyderabad Excise Department has signaled that these raids are part of a broader, intensified strategy to clean up the city. “We are maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against the trade of prohibited substances,” a senior official stated.
