Union Minister and senior BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar has fired a stinging broadside at Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging a clandestine “match-fixing” arrangement between the ruling Congress party and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Speaking at a press gathering on Sunday, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs accused the Chief Minister of deliberately stalling investigations into the controversial Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) to protect key figures in the previous administration.
Allegations of a ‘Secret Pact’
Sanjay claimed that despite the Congress party’s vocal campaign promises to expose corruption within the Kaleshwaram project, there has been a noticeable lack of legal action since they took office. According to the BJP leader, the Chief Minister is attempting to shield “tainted” BRS leaders from accountability. He suggested that the delay in seeking a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is a calculated move to prevent the truth from surfacing.
“The Chief Minister frequently boasts about his courage, yet he seems terrified to initiate a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram irregularities,” Sanjay remarked. He further alleged that the state government is using the pretext of ongoing judicial commissions to buy time for the BRS leadership, rather than pursuing immediate criminal prosecution.
Questions Over Delayed Investigations
The Union Minister questioned why the Congress-led government has not yet filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against the contractors and bureaucrats involved in the project’s technical failures, specifically citing the sinking of the Medigadda barrage piers. He argued that if the Chief Minister were truly committed to transparency, he would have handed over all relevant documents to central investigative agencies by now.
Sanjay highlighted that during the election cycle, the Congress party accused the BRS of a ₹1 lakh crore scam. “If the figures they quoted were accurate, why is there no urgency to recover the public’s money?” he asked, suggesting that the two parties are “two sides of the same coin.”
Political Fallout and Public Accountability
The BJP has positioned itself as the sole opposition force genuinely seeking justice for the alleged financial mismanagement in Telangana’s irrigation sector. Sanjay emphasized that the people of Telangana deserve to know the extent of the “nexus” between the current and former ruling parties. He warned that if the state government continues to drag its feet, the BJP will intensify its public agitation to demand a time-bound, impartial investigation into the Kaleshwaram project under central supervision.
