The newly launched ‘Locked-House Beat’ system is designed to provide peace of mind to residents traveling away from home for extended periods, such as vacations or business trips.
Advanced Monitoring for Vacant Properties
Under this initiative, homeowners can notify their local police station before leaving their property vacant. Once registered, police personnel on patrol duties will include these specific houses in their regular beat cycles. This increased visibility aims to deter potential intruders and ensure that any signs of tampering or attempted entry are identified immediately.
District Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar highlighted that the system is a response to community concerns regarding housebreak-ins, which often peak during holiday seasons. “By formalizing this request process, we can allocate our patrolling resources more effectively to the areas that are most at risk,” Kumar stated during the program’s announcement.
How Residents Can Access the Service
The process has been designed for ease of use. Residents can visit their nearest police station to fill out a simple form detailing the duration of their absence and emergency contact information. Additionally, the department is exploring digital integration through mobile apps to allow citizens to register their ‘locked house’ status remotely.
Security experts suggest that while the police beat system is a significant deterrent, homeowners should also take standard precautions. These include installing high-quality locks, utilizing motion-sensor lighting, and avoiding public social media updates about their travel plans until they return.
