Tensions between the Janata Dal (Secular) and the ruling Congress party escalated in Shivamogga on Monday, as JD(S) party workers launched a vigorous protest against the state government’s recent administrative decisions. The demonstration, which saw a significant turnout of local leaders and supporters, highlights the growing friction between the opposition and the Siddaramaiah-led administration in Karnataka.
Demands for Accountability and Better Governance
The protesters gathered in the heart of Shivamogga city, raising slogans against what they termed “the Congress government’s failure to address local grievances.” Key among their complaints is the alleged neglect of developmental projects in the Malnad region and the rising prices of essential commodities, which they claim is a direct result of the state’s fiscal mismanagement.
JD(S) leaders addressing the crowd emphasized that the protest was not merely political theater but a response to the “growing public frustration” with the current leadership. They accused the Congress of prioritizing partisan interests over the welfare of the common man, specifically pointing toward recent policy shifts that they believe will negatively impact the farming community in Shivamogga district.

In addition to broader state-level issues, local JD(S) representatives voiced concerns regarding the stagnation of infrastructure projects within Shivamogga. They cited delays in road repairs and the inadequate funding of irrigation schemes as evidence of the government’s “step-motherly treatment” toward the region.
